I’ve written before about my BFF baker friends from Indianapolis. (Not surprisingly, in another recipe with lots of chocolate.) This Homemade Chocolate Frosting recipe comes from my friend Brenda. When we worked together, she would bring cupcakes with this frosting and I quickly learned that you had to reserve any extras because they would be completely gone before the day was out. When I was pregnant with Sully, I took full advantage of my pregnant status and requested she make these for me. Sometimes I would even share!
Before tasting this Homemade Chocolate Frosting, I would just buy the store-bought type thinking it was pretty much all the same. But now this is the only recipe I make when I need to frost cupcakes. In fact, I thought Brenda was making the cupcakes from scratch too, but it turns out, this frosting just makes any boxed mix taste like homemade too!
Homemade Chocolate Frosting
- 1/4 lb. butter softened (not margarine)
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 lb. powdered sugar
- 1/2 tbsp. vanilla
- 1/4 cup evaporated milk
In a deep mixing bowl, cream the butter and cocoa powder together with a hand mixer.
Add 1/2 the powdered sugar, the vanilla, and the evaporated milk. Mix together.
Add the remaining powdered sugar and mix together.
Use a deep mixing bowl because the powdered sugar tends to want to jump out of the bowl during mixing.
Come back and let me know how you and your family love this recipe! I love to hear from you guys!
