You guys, I have been seriously slacking in the fitness department. My pants feel like sausage casings. Which makes me very uncomfortable and sausagey. The elephant in the room is that food blogging is notoriously pack-on-the-poundsish. I can’t blame the blog completely but I do need to re-train myself on that whole “all things in moderation” idea. I need to find balance.

Yesterday was my daughter’s 21st birthday. She reminded me that it was also my 15-year anniversary of quitting smoking. Yay me! You know what? Quitting smoking was easier for me than maintaining a healthy weight has been. I think it’s because you can’t just quit food cold turkey like you can tobacco. You don’t need some tobacco to live. It’s not like you just need the right amount and the right kind of tobacco and you’ll have healthy lungs. It’s all or nothing and food isn’t like that. (BTW, for any of you out there who are trying to quit smoking, this site helped me all those years ago.)

In the movie Click with Adam Sandler, it’s in the future and there’s a radio news report and the announcer says something along the lines of, “This just in… Studies show the best way to lose weight is STILL diet and exercise.” That movie came out in 2006 and I still remember that because it’s never going to change. There’s no ONE exercise or ONE way of eating. It has to be a combo and it has to be sustainable. And I know this. And yet… here I am in my sausage pants. Ugh.

That’s where you guys come in! I am putting this out into the great big internet world for accountability. I’m going to tell you my plans, check in with you, and tell you my weight. Okay, maybe not that last part, but I will tell you if I’ve gained or lost and how much. I may even do measurements? I don’t have it all figured out yet. What I want to do is a post at the beginning of each week detailing my plans for that week and also recapping the previous week. The plan is to do this for 4 weeks. But who knows? If you guys find this entertaining or helpful in some way, maybe I’ll continue?

Don’t worry, I’m still going to post delicious recipes! In fact, I have many recipes already posted that I’ll be using for this 4-Week Wellness Jumpstart. Here are a few:

  1. Vanilla Berry Smoothie
  2. Lots of hardboiled eggs cooked to perfection.
  3. My Avocado Pistachio Pesto. Good fats and lots of flavor. So many healthy recipes can be made with this one!
  4. Paleo Detox Salad made with my Paleo Turkey Taco Meat.  <—– I seriously love this stuff.
  5. Mexican Sweet Potato Noodle Bowls

One thing I’m not going to do is starve myself or deprive myself. I’m going to find that fine line and not cross it. I’m going to get my butt to the gym more than once a week because that’s just not cutting it.

Look for my Week 1 post coming soon! (And if you don’t see one, call me out on it!)
